Networking 401 - Its Benefits
I have explained the importance of networking in addition to giving a few tips on how to do it. However, one may still wonder, “What type of gains could I make from networking?”Great question. My personal experience has revealed that 1 opportunity where I met 1 professional offered me 3 back-to-back employment opportunities. Over the course of approximately 18 months, I had 3 project-based contracts with 3 separate employers. The key to this streak of employment is to have good intentions. In other words, you have to approach networking opportunities as chances to get to know fascinating people. Individuals cannot be perceived as a means to end or else networking won't be successful. In fact, you have to be genuinely interested in the person for the benefits of networking to be reaped. Moreover, you have to get to know the person behind the professional job title (i.e. on a personal level) before beginning your professional relationship. The point is, illustrate
that you do not want to simply use the person for what or whom they know but rather care about them as a human being.
In summary, networking can introduce you to new people, provide you with professional opportunities, and simply add value to your life. So why not give it a shot and see what doors are opened for you as a result?
